1. Can I drop my child off at the library for the Popcorn & a Movie program while I go run errands?

If the child is under the age of 10, then we're sorry, but the answer is no. The workers at the Library cannot be held accountable for your child. If your child is 10 or older, then as long as you return before the end of the program, it is acceptable.

2. Can I print something from the computer or make copies at the Library?

Yes. To print/copy, we charge ¢.20 for each black and white page printed/copied. If you are printing for school (K-12 grade), copies are ¢.05 for black and white pages. If the print/copy is in color, it will be ¢.50. Double sided pages for black and white are ¢.40 per copy and $1.00 per color copy. 

3. Does the Library charge patrons when they return their materials late?

Yes. Fines are assessed for overdue materials at a rate of ¢.50 each day for each bestseller; ¢.50 each day for each video, DVD, or CD audiobook; ¢.25 each day for required reading and deposit required books; and ¢.10 each day for all other materials. However there are various programs throughout the year where you do not have to pay and have to perform a task or bring an item. Ask a librarian for more information. 

            Best Sellers and Audio Books are checked out for 14 days.

            Non Best Sellers are checked out for 28 days.

           CD's, DVD's, and Videos are checked out for 7 days.

            Required Reading and Deposit Required books are checked out for 28 days. 

           Reference and Genealogy books cannot be checked out.

4. Does the Library provide computer/internet access to the public?

We have 32 public computers that offer internet access and Microsoft Office 2013 or 2016 and programs for our patrons.

In order to use them you must have a computer card.

 *If you need to print using a newer version of an Office program, please be sure to save your file in the converted format.

5. How can I find out if the Library has a particular book/materials on a certain subject that I want to check out?

It is simple! Our new catalog system allows you to view your account record. You can see when your checked out items are due back, search through our catalog, reserve items, and more!

*  To log on and access your account, you must first have your patron user name which will be your 5-digit card number, and your patron pin which will be your first name only set up through the Library. You can either call us at 774-5480, or come to the Library to have it set up. Once you have done that, click here to begin searching.

6. How many books may I have checked out at one time and for how long may they be checked out?

You may have up to 25 books checked out at one time. 

The time period for borrowing books is 2 weeks for Bestsellers and 4 weeks for all others.

Fines for overdue books are 25 cents per day for Bestsellers and 10 cents per day for all others.

7. How many DVD's or VHS's may I have checked out at one time and for how long may they be checked out?

You may only have 3 DVD's or VHS's checked out at a time PER HOUSEHOLD.

The time period for borrowing DVD's is 1 week.

Fines for overdue DVD's are 50 cents per day.

8. How much do I pay for my child to attend the Popcorn & a Movie program?

Surprisingly enough, you pay nothing! The drink, the popcorn, and the movie are all free!

9. What are the Library's hours of operation?

 The Library is open Tuesday - Thursday, from 10:00am-7:00pm; Friday and Saturday, from 10:00am-5:00pm.

 The Genealogy Room is open Tuesday - Thursday, from 10:00am - 7:00pm & Friday from 10:00am-5:00pm.

10. What is required to obtain a library card?

To receive a Library card, you must: Be a resident of or work in Dale County, Alabama (If you don't fit this requirement you may still receive a Library card for a yearly membership fee of $15.00); Be able to provide identification with proof of residence.

Children through the age of 15 may apply for a Library card when a parent or legal guardian furnishes the appropriate identification and accepts responsibility for any borrowed materials. (the parent or legal guardian must be present)

*The first library card is free; however, it is $3 to replace a lost card.

11. What is the minimum age to use the computers?

Children under the age of 10 will not be allowed to use the Library's main computers unsupervised. Supervision will consist of a parent, an older sibling at least 17 years old, or another responsible adult.

12. Do you still offer access to Apple iMacs?

No. We are sorry, but we no longer have iMacs for public use.

13. Do you have WiFi here?

Yes. We offer FREE access to wireless internet (Only during the hours we are open). 

 

Meeting Areas are now available for a small fee to non-profit organizations.

Reference Service provides information on most subjects.  A librarian is available to help patrons find resources they need to conduct their research.

Telephone reference service answers need for quick facts of figured, responding to your short answer questions.

Free Internet is offered to adults and children.  Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult seventeen years of age or older.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) allows patrons to borrow material from libraries throughout the state and nation. There will be a mandatory $5.00 cash deposit, however it is refunded when all materials are returned.
